Lombok and the Gili Islands:
Lombok, Bali’s next neighbor to the east, is often referred to as “Bali 20 years ago”, but in fact it has quite a distinct character of its own. Easily reached by a 20-minute flight or by several boat and ferry connections, it offers a variety of Lombok hotels, Lombok villas and other Lombok accommodation. Many of the hotels in Lombok, especially those of international standard, are situated along its famous Senggigi Beach, whilst several smaller boutique resorts can be found further towards the north. The south coast, around Kuta and beyond has seen lots of development since the airport was moved to central Lombok and additional luxury resorts and private vacation rentals should continue to be coming up in this area. The Gili Islands, a cluster of three small isles off the northwest coast, Gili Trawangan, Gili Meno and Gili Air boast a variety Lombok accommodation types, from guesthouses and bungalow hotels to several boutique resorts. Tropical crystal-clear waters surround these islands which are the ideal choice for snorkeling and some scuba diving.
