Kerobokan and Canggu, bordering Seminyak to the north, are well known for their selection of boutique Bali hotels and luxury Bali villas. Continuing along Jalan Oberoi, which is also featured in the Legian & Seminyak page, one will find a number of popular restaurants and bars, such as The Living Room, as well as various smaller shops, boutiques and a variety of Kerobokan hotels and private holiday villas. One of the first villa complexes to open in this area was Alu Bali and on the hotel side, the charming Villa Lumbung with their rice barn-style cottages. Both are not far from Petitenget Beach. This area is also known as Batubelig. Another one of the first, if not the first fine dining option in this locale, is Kafe Warisan, located on the main road from Seminyak to Kerobokan and Canggu. With its adjoining antique shop and fine furniture gallery, it is a destination in itself. To find some of the best Canggu villas, head north on the main road towards Canggu. One first passes a series of roadside stalls selling decorative garden arts, such as fountains, planter boxes and flower pots. Furniture shops can be found here as well. There are two roads leading towards Canggu, both turning to the left from the main road. The first is a "shortcut" which winds its way through countless shops, eateries, design and furniture establishments, before leading back to the second alternative, a wider road coming from Denpasar, the Badung regency`s capital city. The latter route can be reached by continuing on the main Seminyak - Kerobokan road and then turning left at the next traffic light. The Canggu area has expanded rapidly over the past few years and it has become a very trendy neighborhood with luxury Canggu villas mushrooming everywhere amidst the lush paddy fields. The Canggu Club can also be found here, on the way to Brawa Beach, offering extensive sporting and dining facilities, as well as an international school. Private residences and vacation rental villas are concentrated around the areas along the roads to Pantai (beach) Brawa, Batu Bolong, Pererean and Seseh. From the greater Canggu area it is not far to the famous Tanah Lot Temple, which offers dramatic views at sunset time (weather permitting). Even at other times of the day it is worthwhile to stop here and enjoy the scenery and the souvenir stalls. A refreshment of young coconut rounds off the experience and is highly recommended. For areas further to the west of Bali, please see the Other Areas page, which covers such exciting destinations as Menjangan Island and Pemuteran, both famous for their splendid underwater world, or the West Bali National Park and the rice terraces of Jatiluwih in Tabanan regency and its surrounding areas. All of them are best visited either on a Bali round-trip or on day excursions from the southern tourist areas.
